The "Yakmobile" The almost pointless resurrection, restoration and running of a 1953 Norman Model 'C' Autocycle

Well I've been busy doing, rather than talking, and they do say every picture is worth a thousand words, so here is my essay in Pixels. Basically it's job done, and next up is a charity ride from East Coast (Hartlepool) to West Coast (Whitehaven) on the Weekend June 24/25th 2006. Wonder if I'll make it??

Rear Brake cable rebuilt using original nipple and outer. Chainguard re-welded

Some wiring needing sorting, a very basic choke arrangement

Rear Brake hooked up, The paper blizzard required to regain original registration

Chainguard fettling, some original black paint remaining on a mudguard clip

Rear light earthing issues resolved

New rubber!, Lights and front suspension sorted

Some performance mods.

Where, exactly *is* Hartlepool??

Well there you have it, Job done. The Norman is back on the road and road legal, - registration retrieved from the clutches of the DVLA (actually they didn't put up much of a fight once me and the NACC showed them the game was up). MOT gained (thanks to Mick Berill motorcycles - Henry St, Northampton. Finally I had the pleasure of marching into my local post office and securing an 'historic' class and hence free Tax Disc.

I have to say she runs rather sweetly, although I've only put 25 odd miles on so far. Thanks to suggestions from Rick Parkington of 'Classic Bike' magazine I've done some porting mods which bring the barrell design forwards a good 20 years, so the engine is producing nearly twice as much power as it would have done when first designed. She's now good for nearly 35 m.p.h on the flat and 25 uphill. Which is still slow, but believe me it doesn't feel it!

Oh and whilst doing the Coast to Coast run I thought I may as well try and give it all some point, so see the link below to read about the charity I'll be attempt to raise funds for; Towerhill stables Animal Sanctuary and here is the write up and sponsor page for my little escapade Raising dosh for Towerhill Animal Sanctuary Currently we're around the 100 quid mark, but I've a sinking feeling that I actually have to attempt the 'run' to get the pledges in - Oh Dear.
