The "Yakmobile" The almost pointless resurrection, restoration and running of a 1953 Norman Model 'C' Autocycle

"So" Says I "Next time you're coming up to mine, sling it in the back and we'll have a go at getting it going"

"By the way, what is it?"

"A Norman"

"How do you know?"

"Gotta Badge"

What does it say?

"Norman"

Right you are. Any idea what model ?

Doesn't say. Norman Nippy? I've heard of them, no idea what they look like though.

So I went on my way with a few photo's that might just be destined for e-bay. Once home I looked again at the pictures and surfed the net. I found my way to the Norman owners site and also the NACC site. I realised that this was no Norman Nippy but something rather older. I learned that autocycle were at their most popular in the impoverished post war years and that they were very generic in their design and the parts used.

I found that the Villiers 2F engine was a 98cc unit which was more or less ubiquitious in autocycle between the late 40's and mid 50's. Incidentally It has no gears, - just one speed and a clutch!

Eventually I found a picture that clinched it - A Norman model 'C' Autocycle it is!. I Wondered in what way the Model 'B' was inferior? Engineless, Wheelless, Seatless?
